“As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news to a far country. (Pro 25:25)”
David was not afraid of evil tidings as he believed that, “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? “(Ps 27:1) .He who trusts in God is not afraid of bad news. The newspaper conveys bad news to you and there is not one sensible thing in it. However, you see more and more people lost in it every morning. Once I saw an old man in Pune Camp area, with tattered clothes and broken slippers, lost in reading the newspaper. Amused, I told my wife, “By reading the newspaper, is he going to be able to change his circumstance, or the nation? What profit is it to him?”
However, let me tell you, there is good news that has come from a far country. The gospel is the good news for all humanity. Once you know the good news, you will not be afraid of the bad news seen and heard everyday, for then your trust will be on Jesus and you will believe that He will take care of you. Your job is to simply trust in the Lord. Why was David not afraid of bad news? Simple, his heart was firm and he trusted in the Lord. His heart was steady and he was not afraid.
I'd like to narrate an incidence to you. A small boy was washed into the sea as their boat was capsized in a terrible storm one night. The rescuers found him in the morning, clinging onto a rock that was jutting out. After having saved him, they inquired of him to know whether or not he was afraid of the storm and the waves beating against his little body. He said,” I shivered, I moved and was very scared, but the rock did mot shiver, nor did it move, nor was it afraid of the storm. I put my trust upon the rock and clinged onto it all night, till help arrived and hence I was saved.” “ He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved” (Ps62:2). My dear people, the Bible says that Christ is the rock of our salvation (2Sam22:47). He is the Rock of Ages, a cleft for you.
This world does not belong to the strong nor does the race belong to the swift, but if your foundation is right, you will be steadfast and stable. Let your foundation be Jesus Christ. Often men of great genius and ability lack stability, but those who put their trust in Jesus, have a steadfast heart, just like the man who built his house upon the rock, whose life stood firm in the wind, rain and flood (Luke6:48). He is not a victim of panic or paralyzing fear. He acts with sanity and dignity in times of crisis. He has a reliable point of reference and that is Jesus, Himself. Trust on Jesus, He has come for you.
It is not hard to trust. Every child knows what it is to trust. However, the important matter is whom to trust. The most restless people in this world are those who trust in themselves and those who are always thinking about themselves. Trust in God with all your heart. How miserable do people feel if their spouses do not trust them with all their hearts? Similarly, God's desire is that you should trust Him with all your heart. Trust Him when dark doubts assail you. Trust Him when your strength is too small. Trust Him when you simply have to trust Him. Trust God's wisdom to guide you. Trust His goodness to provide for you and trust His saving love and power. Everyday and every night trust Him as the only Light. Trust Him in the darkest night. Trust Him in sickness and in health, in poverty and in wealth. Trust Him in life and in death. Trust Him through the journey of life.
Once a little girl said to her mother,” Mummy you and daddy acted awfully worried and scared at the supper table last night while listening to the news report on TV. Was it because you thought that the bad men would blow up the world? Mummy, when I am worried and scared, you comfort me by saying, “God will comfort you” and I am sure He will comfort you too. I'm sure He is looking after things just as you tell me He would. He will take care of us”. The mother felt rebuked by her girl's sweet trust in the provident care of God. Therefore, she said,” I guess we did act worried and scared, I am sorry dear.”
Beloved people let not any report of the world disturb you. The question is, whose report will you believe? I say, believe the report of the Lord and there will be no fear or doubt. His report will carry you over. His report is His Word, Jesus, the foundation rock for your life.
